Dependability is Accountability

For any sort of relationship to function smoothly, there needs to be dependability; whether it is a car and its motor parts, or a person and another.  The car needs all its parts to work correctly or it will stall or break down.  The car and its parts need to be dependable so the driver can get to point A and point B.  An employee has to be accountable to his work schedule and be on time, if not the work isn't completed and profit is damaged.  Therefore, the car needs to be dependable to the employee, just as he is accountable to his job, for the job is dependable on him.  The cycle of dependability and accountability are important for progress.

Family and friends depend on people all the time. When people come through with a favor or request they are looked at as a person with good character and with accountability.  Hopefully when it is their turn to be dependable they will also come through and show respect as a friend or family member.  Dependability and accountability are the cornerstones for any relationship that is wanted to function correctly.  Without these aspects it will not work properly and progress will not ensue. a

  1. You are definitely right - we should be men and women of our word. We should treat others better than ourselves. Relationships are beautiful gifts and should be treasured. You are also correct that they are a reflection of our character. Through relationships with people we can learn a great deal – what it means to be generous, to forgive and be forgiven, to enjoy life, to feel the deep pain of another’s experiences. Relationships are such a unique part of life!

The hard question here is, what do we do when the dependability and respect we give is not reciprocated? How do we respond? That is the true test of our character. How do we respond when we receive nothing in return from the individual(s)?

"You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect." - Matthew 5:43-48

  2. Hola Paul,
Good analogy of the car and all the parts working together. True for many other things in all of our lives. Dependability is just another part of integrity. Live your life as if everyone can see everything....
Noticed a reply and was thinking of...Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies even closer :)
But, in all fun and games everything you do, do as if you where doing to yourself, then you should be good on all levels, LOL
Nothing is perfect, well there was one and look what they did to Him?
Care about others and live with honor, all else falls into place!
    See Ya!
